The Texas Department of State Health Services Vision, Hearing, and Spinal Screening (VHSS) Program is seeking public input on Proposed Rules related to the Vision and Hearing Screening program (25 TAC §37.21 - 37.28). The proposed rules are published in the Texas Register (beginning on pg 59 of THIS document).
The proposed changes impact all sections of the rules, from definitions to screening and referral processes, to screener and instructor training, and equipment/tools for both vision and hearing screenings.
TSNO will provide feedback with special attention to the process for certifying instructors (25 TAC §37.27). I encourage you to review all of the proposed updates and provide your own input.
This is your chance to advocate for protocols that align with the realities of school nurses' actual experience.
VHSS will receive feedback until November 10, 2025. After this date, stakeholder feedback will no longer be accepted.
